A Healthier Lifestyle for the Whole Family
Childhood obesity is a serious health issue that is contributing to an increase of diabetes, asthma and hypertension in children. Since the 1970s, the percentage of children classified as obese has tripled. If left untreated, these children have a 79 percent chance of becoming overweight or obese adults with health complications associated with poor diet and exercise habits.

The Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County’s H.I.P. Kids Program identifies the environmental, behavioral, dietary and physical activity factors that contribute to a child’s overall health. The H.I.P. Kids Program approach supports the whole family, through education, to help prevent or reduce the onset of diseases associated with a sedentary lifestyle and poor diet choices.

We Can Help Participants To:
   - Improve body composition
   - Improve self confidence
   - Improve self-esteem
   - Make nutritious food choices
   - Increase physical activity
   - Live a healthier lifestyle

Why Parents Love H.I.P. Kids:
"This program has given us good strategies in fitness and nutrition. Before this program, I didn’t know how to go about getting my child interested in doing some exercises and how to eat right. This program has given us both a better look at a healthier lifestyle."

"We felt that the H.I.P. Kids Program was very beneficial to our daughter and our family. It has helped her self-esteem and she is more conscious of healthy food choices. The kids enjoyed the activity portion of the program. The time spent with the nutritionist was very beneficial to us. This was a positive experience and we enjoyed meeting other children and families dealing with weight issues. We highly recommend this program to other families and plan to tell our pediatrician about it too."
