Each year an individual who exemplifies the mission of the YMCA by dedicating oneself to developing a healthy spirit, mind and body as well as creating a positive family life for Eastern Delaware County and our immediate communities is honored.

Cocktail reception followed by Dinner, Award Presentation and Dancing. Dress is black tie optional.

The 2011 award was presented to Vince Gordon for outstanding dedication and service to our community.

To be the winner of the Mind, Spirit, and Body Award for the Community YMCA a person has to be a man for all seasons. Vince Gordon is such a man.

While he has devoted more than twenty-seven years of his professional career to the health care field, he has also been devoted to the service of his community.

Vince’s early professional career started at Hahnemann University Hospital and for the American Red Cross as a Medical Technologist specializing in Clinical Hematology and Immuno-hematology. After receiving his MBA from Widener University, Vince joined what was to become Keystone Mercy Health Plan, specializing in provider network development. Vince became Associate Vice-president, Provider Network Management for Keystone Mercy Health Plan where he was responsible for managing Keystone Mercy’s business relationships with several hospital and health systems in Southeast Pennsylvania. In addition to the health systems, he was also responsible for management of Keystone Mercy’s dental, vision, home care, and skilled nursing home providers.

In recognition of his work with hospitals and health systems, Vince was recently appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett as the Deputy Secretary of the Office Medical Assistance Programs, with the Department of Public Welfare. His office is responsible for Medicaid policy, Medicaid Managed Care, the Pennsylvania Fee-for-service Access-Plus Health Plan, Information Systems, and the management of payment and services provided by hundreds of hospital, physician and ancillary providers.

Vince Gordon’s public service is varied and extensive. Vince is past President, Board of School Directors for the Upper Darby School District in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. First elected in 2005, he immediately sought to improve the school district by addressing building maintenance and infrastructure, encouraging local medical and dental professionals to provide mandated screenings for students, increasing minority representation in school administration, and working with fellow board members and the administration to increase student standardized scores.

Vince is also a past president and board member of the Board of Directors for Kids Smiles, a non-profit pediatric dental provider. While he was president, Kids Smiles opened a second office and is on track to serve over 35,000 children in the West Philadelphia and Delaware County communities.

Vince Gordon’s devotion to public service also includes the YMCA of Eastern Delaware County. He is a past executive member of the operating Board of Directors and currently serves as a trustee on the Y’s Foundation Board. In January, 2008, Vince was the keynote speaker at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast, co-sponsored by the Community YMCA and Christ Lutheran Church and held at Drexelbrook in Upper Darby Township.

This is just a partial list of the ways that Vince has served the community by his participation and leadership within various organizations.

Vince has been married for 21 years to Demaris (Overton) Gordon and they have three sons: Vincent, age 18; Brandon, age 14; and Daniel, age 12. The family currently resides in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania.

Vince Gordon’s devotion to the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of the people in his community and now the state makes him a worthy recipient of the 2011 Community YMCA’s Body, Mind, and Spirit Award.
