Blow your bubbles and kick your legs…aquatics at the YMCA is better than ever. Programs are offered for infants all the way up to older adults. Our adults programs include: Aqua Easy, Water Walking and Arthritis Water Exercise for those that suffer with arthritis. With this many options, we know that you will find the class that will make the difference for you!

Water Babies (Ages 6 months to 2 1/2 years)
A parent/child program for children, emphasizing water adjustment through fun-filled activities. Rubber pants/swim diapers required (no regular disposable diapers permitted). An adult must swim with each child.   &

Parent Tot
(Ages 2-4)
Swim with your child in this combination of our Water Babies and the Pre-school programs. An adult must swim with each child.   &

Pike with Parent
(Ages 3-5)
Parent/Child class.

PIKE - EEL - RAY - STARFISH

For beginner to beginner-intermediate swimmers. Children are divided into groups according to skill level. The skills below are the minimum for your child to participate in the class. Parents/guardians are asked to review the descriptions below and choose the level appropriate to your child’s skills. Our Aquatics staff is available for questions.

PIKE
First overall or independent water experience
Needs orientation to pool and water adjustment
Lack of confidence in water in independent class

EEL
Somewhat comfortable in water independently
Needs adjustment to face immersion
Needs adjustment to back float/paddle

RAY
Jumps into pool on their own
Tread water (keep head afloat without standing) for 20 seconds
Back glide with kicking for 10 seconds

STARFISH
Correct rotary (side) breathing with kickboard/barbell 15 yds
Front crawl (freestyle) with overarm recovery 15 yds
Able to do a kneeling dive

Youth Swim Lessons
(Ages 6-12)
POLLIWOG - GUPPY - MINNOW - FISH - FLYING FISH - SHARK

For intermediate to intermediate-advanced swimmers. Children are divided into groups according to skill level. The skills below are the minimum for your child to participate in the class. Parents/guardians are asked to review the descriptions below and choose the level appropriate to your child’s skills. Our Aquatics staff is available for questions.

First water experience

Front float/glide with face immersed 5 yards unassisted

Backstroke 25 yards
Breaststroke 15 yards

FLYING FISH

American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Ages 15 and older)
This class will train participants who are already strong swimmers to become lifeguards.

Participants will learn the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard in addition to many rescue techniques. The new, revised lifeguard training program includes CPR, First Aid, AED and Oxygen Training. A skills test will be given on the first night of class which includes a 500 yard swim using the following strokes: 200 yards front crawl, 100 yards breaststroke, 200 yards front crawl or breaststroke.

Students must also be able to swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a minimum depth of nine feet, retrieve a 10 lb. object and swim 20 yards back to the starting point.
Masters Swimming (Ages 18 and over)
Structured practice group for swimmers. Full Privilege Members only.  

Adult/Teen Swim Lessons

It's never too late to learn how to swim. Class is divided up by ability. Lessons are from beginner to advanced.   &

Water Walking
(Ages 15 and older)
This low impact exercise program is conducted in the deep end of the pool. Vests are provided.  

Water Aerobics
Water exercises choreographed to music. Class is held in shallow end of the pool.  

* Splash Down

Shallow and deep end class with cardio and sculpting.  

W.E.A.R.
(formerly Arthritis Water Exercise)
Range of motion exercises conducted in shallow water.  

* Bad Back

This program is for those who have been released from physical therapy. Focuses on therapeutic strength and mobility.  

Aqua Pump

An exciting class held in shallow and deep water. Class uses various equipment to fully utilize the water's natural resistance. A cardiovascular workout with low stress on joints.  

Exerswim

A total body workout! Class is held in shallow and deep end of the pool. Includes arm and leg movements, total body exercises, water running, aerobic moves and more.  

Aqua Easy

Designed for people with arthritis and weight problems. A shallow water class with slow paced, repetitious exercises moving all joints through their complete range of motion.  

Water Joggin'

Jog your way to better health! This is a deep water class with buoyancy belts. Enjoy the benefits of aerobic fitness and increased endurance without stress on your joints.  

Private Swim Lessons
Private swim lessons are now available in six week formats at the Ridley Area YMCA and at the Ridley High School Pool.

Third Grade Safe Swim Program

Presented by the Community YMCA of Eastern Delaware County
PARENTS...this program will help put your mind at ease, because your child will gain valuable skills to help them take care of themselves around water! Don’t miss out on these swim safety classes! Enroll your child for this FREE, beginner program, open to all third graders.

CYEDC Long Course Training
This program requires a USA Swimming membership. This program is designed to introduce swimming from a different perspective in a 50-meter pool. Participants, ages 10 and up, will work on stroke mechanics, while getting the feel of an Olympic size swimming pool.

Days: (June 21-July 30)
Mon-Fri 7-8:30am
at Briarcliffe Swim Club

CYEDC Swim Clinic at RHS
The Community YMCA Swim Team and its coaches will be offering instructional clinics. Each participant must be able to do the stroke that is offered that day.  

Days: (Tuesdays from 5-6:30pm)
June 15 - Butterfly
June 22 - Breaststroke
June 29 - Starts/Turns for Butterfly & Breaststroke
July 6 - Backstroke
July 13 - Freestyle
July 20 - Review of all strokes, starts, and turns

Days: June 21-July 30

Ridley Area YMCA Swimming (RAYS)

The RAYS competitive swimming team has become one of the premier programs in the entire area. Since its inception in 1994, the team has grown steadily and has made its mark at many levels of swimming.

Lansdowne YMCA Marlins Swim Team

We promote the fun of swimming while emphasizing the importance of goal setting, proper stroke technique, and hard work ethics. Currently we have 6 different practice groups, Yellow, Red, White, Blue, Silver, and Gold, which accommodate the different skill levels and increase in difficulty as a swimmer progresses.
